To cel­e­brate the start of win­ter, the Nation­al Parks and Wildlife Ser­vice (NPWS) is cel­e­brat­ing one of the state’s great win­ter parks, Mount Remark­able Nation­al Park, as Park of the Month in June.

Flinders Chase Nation­al Park vis­i­tor cen­tre will be rebuilt at a new loca­tion with the State Gov­ern­ment pur­chas­ing land which was the for­mer Kan­ga­roo Island Wilder­ness Retreat and com­mit­ting $10 mil­lion to the rebuild after sig­nif­i­cant com­mu­ni­ty consultation.

Fol­low­ing the Kan­ga­roo Island sum­mer bush­fires, vol­un­teer online eco-war­riors from across the globe have been count­ing endan­gered Dun­narts from their home com­put­ers in a bid to help save the species, the program’s pop­u­lar­i­ty prompt­ing the Depart­ment for Envi­ron­ment and Water to launch a new dig­i­tal vol­un­teer­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties portal.

Threat­ened species recov­ery in the Flinders Ranges has received a boost with a new $600,000 fund­ing part­ner­ship for the Bounce­back pro­gram – on the eve of its 30^th year of operation.

South Aus­tralia could soon be home to the largest nation­al park in Aus­tralia, with the pro­pos­al to cre­ate the Munga-Thirri – Simp­son Desert Nation­al Park.
