As part of the South Australian Government’s Parks 2025 commitment to improve its nature-based tourism offering, stage 1 of upgrades to visitor facilities at Akurra Adnya (Arkaroo Rock) in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park has been completed.
Concept planning has been completed to guide upgrades for key nodes along the 20 km self-drive Brachina Gorge Geological Trail.
Progressing World Heritage for the Flinders Ranges is well underway with support of a Community Reference Group who is championing the bid at a local level.
Torrential storms ravaged the Flinders Ranges over the Australia Day long weekend earlier this year. In particular, the bridge that provides access to photograph the famous Cazneaux Tree was damaged from flood water.
Following a spate of wombat deaths in recent months along a stretch of road within the Coorong National Park, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) rangers will shortly deploy camera surveillance to monitor the area.
