A Fed­er­al Gov­ern­ment grant of more than $720,000 has been announced to sup­port action to restore and pre­serve some of Australia’s old­est cul­tur­al her­itage sites in South Aus­tralia, includ­ing Koon­al­da Cave.

Roads have now reopened to four-wheel dri­ve traf­fic at the spec­tac­u­lar Malkum­ba-Coongie Lakes Nation­al Park and all SA desert parks, after flood­wa­ters affect­ed road access late last year.

A total of 51 pre­scribed burns are planned as part of Nation­al Parks and Wildlife Service’s (NPWS) autumn 2023 fire man­age­ment pro­gram, which is antic­i­pat­ed to start in the next fortnight.

More and more peo­ple are redis­cov­er­ing South Australia’s nat­ur­al beau­ty with vis­its to some nation­al parks sky­rock­et­ing 35 per cent over the past year.

Expres­sions of inter­est are now open to run the café and retail space in the new Flinders Chase Vis­i­tor Cen­tre which is cur­rent­ly under con­struc­tion after the for­mer build­ing was destroyed in the 2019 – 20 fires.
