The Octo­ber long week­end is fast approach­ing but there is still time to enjoy the best of South Aus­tralia by book­ing an adven­tur­ous camp­ing get­away in one of the state’s majes­tic nation­al parks and reserves.

Pub­lic camp­ing facil­i­ties offer­ing greater oppor­tu­ni­ties for vis­i­tors to appre­ci­ate a pop­u­lar River­land loca­tion are being planned by the Depart­ment for Envi­ron­ment and Water.

Envi­ron­men­tal vol­un­teers can apply for a share of $175,000 in fund­ing to sup­port vital con­ser­va­tion pro­grams in the state’s nation­al parks and reserves.

It has been recog­nised as one of the top 10 places in the world to vis­it this year and is inter­na­tion­al­ly revered as a unique haven.

And now South Australia’s jew­el in the crown, Kan­ga­roo Island, is being cel­e­brat­ed by Nation­al Parks and Wildlife Ser­vice (NPWS) as Park of the Month for September.

A state-of-the-art adven­ture play­ground and vis­i­tor hub are among the new attrac­tions at the upgrad­ed Glen­thorne Nation­al Park-Itya­mai­it­pin­na Yarta, which is now open to the public.
