A record num­ber of cit­i­zen sci­en­tists have answered the call to assist in bush­fire recov­ery efforts for one of Kan­ga­roo Island’s most endan­gered species.

Up to $52 mil­lion of works have start­ed to rebuild and reju­ve­nate Kan­ga­roo Island’s nature-based tourism in parks, cre­at­ing hun­dreds of much-need­ed jobs fol­low­ing the summer’s bush­fires and impacts from coronavirus.

A Kan­ga­roo Island koala count using drones, infrared cam­eras and arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence is under­way to bet­ter under­stand the remain­ing pop­u­la­tion fol­low­ing the sum­mer bushfires.


Wildlife Recov­ery Fund grants now open

Land­hold­ers, com­mu­ni­ty groups and researchers can now apply for bush­fire recov­ery grants of up to $50,000 to help re-estab­lish native habi­tat and sup­port threat­ened and vul­ner­a­ble native ani­mals in South Australia.
